                                                    CRAFTS:              Last update: 12Jul2008.

All classes will be held from 9:30 to noon on Wednesdays in the Craft Room.

January 6
Sweatshirt Transformation: Turn an ordinary sweatshirt into a jacket with quilted accents. You’ll need a sweatshirt, one yard of pre-quilted fabric and matching thread. No charge.

January 13
Mad Hatter’s Workshop: In preparation for the Red Hatter’s “Mad Hatter’s” Lunch on January 23rd, give your red hat a new look (or design a new one). Feathers, beads, ribbons—all sorts of supplies will be available. We will also plan on having these supplies available several other times during the week before the luncheon to give everyone an opportunity to spiff up their hats. No charge.

January 20
Decorated Photo Frames: The frames will hold a 4x6 photo. We’ll use decoupage to decorate them with fabric and/or paper. Bring some scraps of fabric, wrapping paper etc. to pool for everyone to use. The frames can also be embellished with lace, beads, buttons, whatever you’d like. No charge.

January 27
Ribbon Flower Napkin Rings: For each flower you need 10 inches of decorating ribbon. You don’t want ribbon that will ravel. (The minimum width is 2 ½ inches; the maximum is 4 inches.) For the leaves you’ll need 10 inches of 1 ½ inch wide green ribbon for each flower. Do not use wired ribbon. No charge.

Additional classes planned:

Quilted slippers: You’ll need ¼ yard each of cotton fabric for the upper lining and the sole lining. You’ll need a total of about 1/3 yard of cotton scraps or remnants for the uppers. These pieces need to be at least 10 ½ inches long. Muslin, batting and vinyl (for the soles) will be provided at cost.

Beaded ceiling fan pulls: Bring beads if you already have them. An assortment of beads will be provided. No charge.

Mosaic pot: Buy an old-fashioned clay flower pot. We’ll glue on broken china pieces and turn it into a work of art. Check out the garage sales this summer for assorted china or crockery in interesting colors and patterns. No charge.

“Day” Pack: This is a drawstring bag that you can wear like a back pack. We have an assortment of tapestry fabric in the Craft Room to use for these bags so you don’t even have to buy anything. No charge.

Beaded Name Tag Necklace or Eye Glasses Holder: This is as easy as it sounds. Bring your own beads if you have them or select from the assortment provided. No charge.

Etched glass: You pick—wine or cocktail glasses, bowls, candlesticks, plates, mirrors—any plain glass object. We’ll supply the etching chemical and a variety of stencils. Or, you can go to Michael’s or Hobby Lobby and choose a stencil you want to use. There may be a nominal charge.

March 31
Decoupage Easter Eggs: Bring assorted fabric and/or paper scraps. No charge.

There are eleven planned classes with one open date available. If you have an idea or have seen something you’d like to try, please e-mail me at p.whitney759@att.net. I’m always looking for craft ideas. See you in the fall.
